The OpenHive Way Of Working
The openhive network was set-up to offer a new way of working. An alternative, and in our opinion, a better way to provide web design and development services to all our customers.
Traditionally, producing a website would mean you choosing to employ either a individual freelance web designer or a studio based web design company, with both ‘production methods’ bringing their advantages and disadvantages along with them.
The openhive network sits somewhere between the two, combining the advantages of each whilst eliminating the restrictive and inefficient aspects of both.
The Web Design Studio Way Of Working
The main benefit in having a design studio produce your website for you, is the wide range of in-house, collaborative expertise they can provide. But openhive, as a formal freelance network, gives you this also. All our members are experts in their field and collectively we can offer a much broader level of service than most design studios could. We’ve also been successfully working in collaboration for many years. In fact, in reality many web design studios ‘outsource’ their work to specialist freelancers anyway – we’ve been there, done that!
The downside in using a web design studio is that, by its nature, it is extremely inefficient. It will have high running cost overheads…
- paying for large office space
- employing receptionists or other non design related positions
- having any number of permanent specialist staff who’s particular skills you may never actually use.
These high running costs are the same week in week out, and someone has to pay for them. The openhive way of working eliminates these inefficiencies, making it far more cost-effective. The openhive members involved in producing your website are only getting paid for the work they do – strictly task based and by the hour.
The Freelance Web Designer Way Of Working
The advantages and disadvantages in using a freelance web designer are in many ways the opposite of the design studio.
